Why we started / 2023
Care should lead
to action.
In 2023, we were frustrated that too few students were taking an active role in the health of Oakland County and their own communities.
Oakland Service Initiative began as a way to turn that concern into action: bringing people together to learn, volunteer, and care for the place we call home.
Our mission
We serve Oakland County through , , and .
Hospitality
Email OSI for training information about health and hospice volunteering and opportunities to support and care for patients.
Nature
Planting and protecting local green spaces, including 500 plants added at Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center in two days.
Learn by doing.
Hands-on activities and micro:bit robotics help students build skills, explore ideas, and share what they know.
Show up for people.
From food assistance and community events to health and hospice volunteering, we give our time where a helping hand matters.
Care for our county.
Planting and protecting green spaces turns care for Oakland County into something we can see and help sustain together.
